The Car (1977) inspired drink because let’s face it, the plot was bananas but it was a fun flick to enjoy. Filled with every trope the 70’s could throw at us, The Car is devilishly campy and fun. The “Car” damom Banana Milkshakes - Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 medium ripe bananas (Very yellow and not firm)
- 3/4 cup of milk or milk substitute ( Almond milk and cashew milk worked well)
- 3 large scoops of vanilla ice cream or other vanilla frozen dairy treat
- 2 tbsp of lime juice (fresh squeezed or from concentrate)
- 1 tbsp Cardamom (Fresh crushed seeds from pods are best and you'll need about 5, but you can buy it in the spice isle as well)
- Dark chocolate (Optional)
Instructions
- In a blender, add milk & bananas then blend to until smooth.
- In a small cup mix lime juice and cardamom and lightly whisk, then add to the banana milk mixture and pulse 3 to 4 times.
- Add ice cream and blend 10 - 15 seconds on high
- Garnish with dark chocolate if desired.
- Enjoy!
Notes
There isn't a lot that can go wrong with this shake, but one thing we have noticed through trial and error is that overly ripe bananas tasted horrible. There is a delicate balance between ripe and mushy. Over ripe bananas did work well in our banana breads, but for the shake, stick to yellow but not too firm fruits.
Additionally, the addition of the lime juice shouldn't be skipped or substituted. Lemon was way too bright for this drink, but the lime was a citrus burst without the sour tang.
