Archimedes Owl Cupcakes – The Sword in the Stone
Sarcastic owls, wizard duels, moat monsters and love. My kids loved this movie so much, that of course we needed a movie snack for it. These Archimedes Owl cupcakes are very sweet and definitely dessert. A few times, we made muffins instead of cake mix for a little less sugar. Feel free to experiment. You really can’t go wrong.

Ingredients
- 1 box of Devil's Food cake mix by Duncan Hines
- 1 Cup (250 mL) Water
- 1/3 Cup (80 mL) Vegetable Oil (for kids we substitute the call for vegetable oil, 1:1 with applesauce)
- 4 Large Eggs ( the box says 3, but use 4)
- 12 Oreo cookies
- 1 package M+M candies
- 1 package black or cherry licorice
- 1 container of dark chocolate icing
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350.
- Thoroughly grease the cupcake tins with a spray like Pam
- Make cupcake mix as instructed but with the substitutions and additions in our list
- Pour the cupcake batter to slightly less than 3/4 full. DO NOT OVERFILL
- Once the cupcakes are done, set aside and let cool for at least 30 mins
- Open each Oreo cook carefully and set the sides with the white cream center, off to one side.
- Cut licorice in small strips and at an angle to make a "beak"
- Frost cupcakes with the icing. Be generous with the amount of icing
- Set the licorice on the cupcake to make the nose.
- Add a single candy to each cookie to make an eyeball.
- Add to cookies to each cupcake to make the eyes.
Notes
It's really important to use the large cupcake tins to make these Archimedes Owls. Small cupcakes, can't hold the cookies and everything falls off.
