When Alexander Dumas sat down to write The Count of Monte Cristo, we doubt he envisioned this sandwich being a part of the story. We are very sure that after Dantès escaped from his island prison, he’d be hungry enough to eat a few of these.

© 2024 @moviesmakethemeal.com
Ingredients
- 3 slices thick white bread ( Artesano™ Bakery Bread by Sara Lee® worked best)
- 2 slices fresh Parma Ham
- 3 slices thick cut ham (ask at the deli for a thick cut)
- 2 slices of Provolone cheese
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 + splash of whole milk
- Deli style mustard
- Butter
- Optional: Raspberry or cherry jam
Instructions
- Whisk eggs and milk together and set aside.
- Spread mustard on each face up side of the bread.
- Layer ham, Parma ham and cheese. Cover with a bread slice and repeat. Press the sandwich down to compress.
- Soak the entire sandwich in the egg mixture and then flip the sandwich so that the top and bottom layers of the bread are well coated.
- Heat a skillet on MEDIUM-LOW (crucial for even cooking) add butter and then fry the sandwich for at least 4 mins on each side. We cover out pan with a lid to melt the cheese evenly.
- Cut the sandwich in half.
- Add swords toothpicks.
- Serve with jam on the side to dip, if you like sweet and savory together.
Notes
This is a monster sandwich perfect as a keto revenge story. It's meaty, cheesy, and with three slices of bread, carbo-loaded. We don't make this recipe often, but when watching the Count of Monte Cristo, it's a must have meal. We always pair this sandwich with carrot sticks and celery just to pretend veggies have a place here.
