The Witcher – Chicken for the Children
The side quest Empty Coop was a fun little jaunt in the Witcher 3 game where Geralt hunts a monster but discovers the thieves are orphan children. On this week’s podcast, we talked about video games as they work ( or don’t ) in the TV series format. While we haven’t seen this quest represented in the Witcher series, maybe we will! This Witcher recipe is as hard or easy as you want to make it.
The Witcher - Chicken for the Children
Ingredients
- Chicken tenderloins - halved, fully thawed
- 3 beaten eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 cup flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp pepper pepper
- Frying oil of choice
Instructions
- Combine beaten eggs and milk together
- Dip chicken into egg mixture then dredge into flour.
- Press the flour mixture into the chicken, let rest for 5 minutes
- Repeat the first three steps if you want more coating on your chicken.
- Add chicken to hot oil. Be sure your oil covers most of the chicken but is not submersed. Fry for 6-7 minutes turning halfway through.
Notes
Frying without buttermilk always tastes better to me, but some people swear buttermilk is the only way to get the outside coating fluffy. If you coat and re-coat your chicken in the flour and egg mixture, you get a nice, thick breading without it.
Keep an eye on your temperature. You want a 350 degree heat. (A candy thermometer is a great investment for just a few dollars) Frying takes practice! Try one or two in the pan to practice and get in idea for time and browning. An electric skillet or a cast iron pan work the best.
Save flavors for the dipping sauces.
